I was inquiring about my rather troublesome washing machine when I immediately sensed it was a scam. My neighbour had just received a nearly identical call, which raised a red flag. I informed the caller that my daughter handles all my financial matters, being a solicitor herself, and he seemed eager to end the conversation. When I requested a number for her to reach him, he hesitated and then provided the number 0800 688 9090, which was different from the one displayed on my phone, 01273 025126. It's quite astonishing how these chaps will go to any lengths to lift your hard-earned cash!

Rang me up claiming that the warranty on my HOTPOINT appliance had expired. I asked him thrice for clarification on which one it was. He simply said, “HOTPOINT.” I mean, come on! Is it the washing machine, the tumble dryer, or the dishwasher? Honestly, I can hardly keep track of which is which. Thankfully, all three are insured with a reputable company, so I’m not too fazed by the call.

I didn’t recognise the number, so I just ignored it. They never bothered to leave a voicemail, so I’m guessing it was just some annoying spam call.

I answered the phone and heard a recorded message saying something about “allsorted cover” or similar, then it mentioned all the operators were busy but they’d call back soon. Pretty clear they’re using some kind of auto dialler system. Anyway, I’ve just blocked the number now.
