I received a call from someone purporting to be Amazon Prime, instructing me to press 1 if I wanted to cancel my subscription. Naturally, I pressed 1, only to be looped back into the same automated message about Amazon Prime. I pressed again and was connected to a woman who had a noticeable Chinese accent. She requested access to my device so she could "assist me" with the cancellation. When I asked her to specify which device I was using-be it my TV, tablet, phone, or computer-she seemed rather flummoxed. I then informed her that I was planning to cancel my direct debit and wouldn't require her assistance after all. To my astonishment, she insisted that I needed to provide her with access to my computer. I countered that if I didn't pay her by cancelling my direct debit, how could she access my funds? At that point, she abruptly terminated the call. I must clarify that I don't even have a Prime membership.
