About a year back I was thinking of signing up for a language course, but ended up not going through with it. I just received a call from +44 1270 433656 claiming to be from Shaw or Show Academy in Switzerland about some Photoshop classes I apparently tried to sign up for last year. I can’t really remember, but since it’s related to my line of work they had my name and number. At first, I couldn’t quite catch what the guy was saying, but luckily I got suspicious straight away. I told him I was still interested and he started blabbering about free classes for three months and free materials, also saying I could cancel any time. But something felt off - his accent kept flipping between a Swiss one and an Indian one every few seconds. You could hear the nervousness creeping in his voice when he started pushing for payment info - Visa, Mastercard, etc. I told him I’m currently out of work because of Covid and struggling financially. That’s when his voice started cracking and he said he could just charge $50 now and sort the rest later. That was the moment I knew it was a scam. I told him I’d get back to him but he kept pestering me to finish signing up. These sorts of calls are popping up all over here, lots of people chatting about them on WhatsApp and emails too. Be alert, it’s definitely a scam.
