Beware of Shaw Academy, they're nothing more than fraudsters!

On the 6th of June, 2021, I received a call from a number I didn't recognise. It struck me as unfamiliar, so I chose to ignore it altogether.

Beware of Shaw Academy! They operate like con artists, attempting to lure you into divulging your banking information under the guise of offering "complimentary" courses. It's a total ruse!

Got a call showing up as Crewe, England on my phone. No idea who it was from. Didn’t answer and just blocked it straight away. Definitely not picking up unknown numbers like that again.

Some bloke from abroad rang me up at bloody 1 in the morning, and he already had my number. I heard him chatting before I even had the phone to my ear, so I just hung up sharpish and blocked the number. But then annoyingly, he managed to get past my block and tried ringing again at 4am!

I keep getting calls from this number at half past one in the morning, and it's driving me mad!

I've been reading through your comments, and it seems I wasn't mistaken. I'll certainly add this number to my ‘AVOID AT ALL COSTS’ list. I didn't pick up the phone when they rang, but then out of the blue I got an email from them. It was Shaw Academy, this online place that offers loads of courses. About a year back I was thinking of signing up for a language course, but ended up not going through with it. Since then, they keep ringing and messaging me, pushing their courses even though I've told them repeatedly to quit with the unwanted calls and emails. They just keep coming!

So, I keep getting emails from Shaw Academy nonstop, which is kinda odd. Then, out of nowhere, they ring me up really late at night. Bit creepy if you ask me!

I recently received a call from +44 1270 433656, claiming to represent Shaw or Show Academy in Switzerland regarding some Photoshop classes I attempted to sign up for last year. To be honest, I can't recall the details, but it is pertinent to my line of work, and they clearly knew my name and had my number on file. Initially, I struggled to make sense of what he was saying, but I sensed something was off. Trust your instincts, right? So I decided to play along. He went on about enticing "FREE" classes for three months and a bunch of complimentary materials, assuring me I could cancel whenever I wished. But during his spiel, I noticed his accent fluctuating - one moment it was a genuine Swiss lilt, and the next it morphed into a rather dodgy Indian accent. That’s when I picked up on the obvious unease in his voice. He then began to probe further into the registration process, asking how I planned to settle the fees-Visa, MasterCard, you name it. I played my hand and mentioned that, thanks to the pandemic, I’m currently out of work, and funds are tight. Well, that threw him off! His tone shifted dramatically as he insisted I could still provide my credit card details, promising only a $50 charge that would just be ‘sorted out’ later when my financial situation improved. Right then, I recognised his tactics for what they were. I told him I would think it over, but he continued to push for a swift completion of the registration. Let me be crystal clear: this is a SCAM. I’ve been hearing chatter back home about similar calls, WhatsApp messages, and emails increasing in frequency. So, my advice to everyone is to remain vigilant and cautious!

Those who try to cancel and reclaim their funds are met with empty assurances and dodgy excuses but rarely see their money returned. Once you’re in their system, it appears rather difficult to extricate yourself...

They kept pushing me to verify my details and insisted that I check their website on the spot. I requested them to send an email outlining their offer instead. It's quite clear that once you visit their site, they can track who's accessing it, which raises major red flags for me. I played along to gauge their intentions, but I refrained from sharing any personal information as it all seemed rather suspicious.

I usually don’t pick up calls from unknown numbers, not really sure who this might be. If it was important or someone really wanted to get hold of me, they’d probably leave a voicemail, but they never do.

They were offering a "free month trial" deal, but wanted me to share my card info either over the phone or by clicking a link they sent in an email. Felt a bit dodgy to me.
