I don’t think I shared my number with anyone, so it feels like Virgin might have handed it out without my permission. Got a call moments ago from this number, the woman asked if I was the person in charge of [insert my business name]. I confirmed I was. She claimed she was calling from Google - apparently “the well-known search engine” (as if anyone isn’t aware of Google these days?) She mentioned she handles the cake businesses listed there and said a spot on page one for London had just opened up. When she asked if I served all of London, I said no and made it clear I don’t spend money on ads.

This number has been ringing me for a couple of days now. Our landline is unlisted and we never share it, so I'm curious how they even got hold of it. I saw other comments mentioning the line is dead, so I gave it a ring back and got the ‘number not in service’ message as well. Pretty sure it’s some kind of spam, best to just ignore it. Honestly, blocking these numbers should be a thing.

Got a call claiming they wanted to upgrade my O2 phone. I asked them what phone they were offering, and they turned around and asked what phone I currently have. I was like, "Shouldn't you already know that if you're trying to upgrade me?" They said they had no clue about my phone model and then I asked where on earth they got my info from. Right after that, the person just hung up on me. Really don't like the idea of my personal info being passed around to who knows who.

Today, 14th January 2017, I got a call at 12:27 from a bloke who started going on about a car crash claim, which I’ve never had anything to do with. Tonight I got a call from this number. I picked up, but there was silence initially, I was about to end the call when a somewhat nervous young woman came on saying she was ringing from some industrial hearing centres. She mentioned there were clinics nearby where I could get my hearing tested. When I queried how they got my contact, she replied it was from a national database. Around 6.40pm I got a call from this number right in the middle of tea, which was quite annoying. The person said they were working for some investigation firm and claimed someone in my home had been in a small car accident recently. Yesterday morning I got a call from Weatherseal Double Glazing, one of those call centres that just don’t listen when you ask to be taken off their list. The best trick I found is to actually set up a meeting with them. When the rep turns up at your place, have a go at them about the Telephone Preference Service and then wave them off. Heard they’re not too fond of their time being wasted either! Haha!

Over the past day, this number has rung me around half a dozen times. Most of the calls were either dead silence or just a quick "hello" before hanging up. The last one, though, featured a man speaking with a strong Scottish accent who tried to pitch a local scrappage deal for windows and doors. When I told him it was a nuisance call, he apologised nicely and said he'd take our number off their list. Funny thing is, the number doesn’t come up when I try to call it back, and I can’t find any info about this “scrappage scheme” anywhere online. We’ll see if they ring again.

Somebody rang claiming to be from Future Homes. When I mentioned the homeowner wasn’t around, they asked when would be a good time to call again. But when I told them we don’t take unsolicited calls, their attitude turned hostile, saying the call “wasn’t even for me.” I’m actually the homeowner and I’m sure no one asked for this call. I found out they're connected to some dodgy payday outfit called Toothfairy or something like that.
