Over the past few days, I've been getting calls claiming to be from Visa. I ignored the first couple, letting my answerphone pick them up like I usually do. But when the number showed up again the third time, I answered out of sheer curiosity. Apparently, they told me a £600 payment had been halted. I didn’t press 1 like they wanted. What puzzles me is how their auto system can tell if a real person or just my answerphone picks up.

Got two calls, one from 08723740143 at 12:31 and then 01267772514 at 12:41. Both pretended to be from Mastercard’s security team, talking about some £600 purchase overseas. They told me to press 1 to block the transaction, but I’m certain that pressing 1 would have led to them trying to grab my card info!
