I got a call saying there’s some problem with my router and my computer, but it seemed really dodgy to me. I reckon it’s a scam, so I’d say don’t even bother picking up if this number calls you!

I had just finished a chat with BT about setting up a new broadband service when this guy gave me a ring. He claimed he was ringing for BT with some exclusive deals. As soon as I mentioned I’d already talked to BT earlier that day, he went quiet and ended the call. Quite obvious it was a dodgy sales pitch!

I have no clue who rang as it was one of those calls where they just hang up straight away without saying a word. No point trying to ring them back since it was probably some robotic dialler. Worse still, your call might be rerouted to a pricey number, maybe even abroad, just to charge you loads or to try and fish out your bank details. It’s the sort of scam you really need to watch out for.

I wasn’t totally certain at first, but now I’m pretty sure BT blocks this number if you’ve got Call Protect set up. So if you get a call from it, it’s almost certainly unwanted. Best bet is just to block or ignore it. I checked my Junk Voicemail and there was a long silence before a drawn-out noise signalling the call ended. No scammer with any sense would stick around once they figured they were sent straight to Junk.
