Sounds like a typical scam to me. From what I've seen, these calls tend to ring about four times before suddenly stopping. That's often a dead giveaway it’s dodgy. Real callers normally wait for voicemail and leave a message, although some scammers do try to fool you by leaving one too. My tip? Don’t bother returning the call. A mate of mine ended up being stung £40 after calling back. Best thing is to just block the number outright.

Some time ago, my missus was asked to help out collecting for this charity. They gave us one of those thick cardboard trays with spaces for thirty £1 coins, then requested she go door to door on our side of the street - counting about 15 houses down and back - to gather donations. Not really keen on knocking on neighbours’ doors, she simply popped down to the bank and got £30 in change, handing it back to them instead (she's a softy, what can I say). Trouble is, ever since then they won’t leave us be. When I pick up their calls, I make it crystal clear that she made a mistake once and we’re not backing their charity again, and they should remove our number from their cold calling list. This number keeps showing up and I’m fed up with all these call centre interruptions. I’m on the TPS list but it doesn’t seem to affect these charity calls at all.
