I received a rather dubious phone call from someone claiming to represent O2, offering me a so-called one-off deal. They insisted that I should check my email and texts, as I would be sent a message assuring me it wasn’t a scam, followed by another one containing a link to my exclusive offer, which apparently only I would receive. Naturally, I was sceptical and expressed my doubts, asserting that it all sounded like a classic scam. The caller was quite persistent and attempted to extract personal information from me. Despite my repeated warnings that I considered it a con job, they responded rather curtly with, "Don't waste my time," before abruptly hanging up on me. I can only imagine that had I fallen for their ruse, I’d have discovered no messages actually materialised. They likely would have asked for my phone number or email or might have been 'gracious' enough to extend the offer over the phone, but only after I provided my bank details. Alternatively, they might have sent a link that, if clicked, would hand them control over my device.
