Sounds like they’re just checking if the number’s active so they can flood it with spam later or sell it to other scammers. Best just to block the lot of them! Proper spam callers!

Got a call saying there was a £600 charge on my bank card and I needed to press 1 for more info. I just ended the call straight away, pretty sure they'd try to get my account and security details. Had a look at my bank account afterwards and, unsurprisingly, no sign of any such payment.
