I got a call from 01254 798367 where the person claimed to be from BT, warning me that my internet would be cut off today unless I pressed 1 to prevent it. When I did, a woman with what sounded like a Chinese accent answered and told me my email had been compromised. She asked me to switch on my computer so they could fix it, and said this was their final warning before shutting down my service. I hadn’t had any earlier calls from BT, so I got a bit wary and told her I’d call BT myself after lunch. Then she just ended the call suddenly.

I saw the number but didn’t know who it was so I just let it ring out. Nothing was left on the voicemail. After having a look on here, it turns out it’s a blocked call.

Got a call from a man with an Indian accent claiming to be from the phone service. He asked if I’d been getting any scam calls lately. I replied, "Yeah, from you lot!" He then tried to confirm who I was and my address, but I told him he could just look me up in the directory. Next, he said I was under 75 years old. I told him I wasn’t. He insisted I’d got it wrong and asked me to repeat the question, but I said I couldn’t remember what he asked because of my age. So he asked again, I said no once more, and then he just hung up on me.

Got a quick-talking lady from somewhere in Asia who said she was from Telephone Management Services, claiming they work with my phone company to stop international calls. She tried to push me into upgrading so they’d block other numbers too. Thought I'd have a bit of fun with her! She kept asking if I was really me, if my number was xyz, and if I was up to date on my phone bills. I asked her how else she’d be chatting to me then. She dodged all my questions, but I told her I already had the power to block any number I liked - including her dodgy outfit's. And I did just that!

Got a call from a bloke with a weird accent who started banging on about blocking calls. He then goes and rattles off my address and asks if I’m over 75. My mum's landline is on BT Call Protect, she's 93. Luckily, it blocked a load of spam calls. I was thinking just today how it’s been over a week now without her getting all the usual junk calls. There was a day not long ago she had like 8 calls from those s#### numbers.

got a call from a guy, sounded asian, said he was from the “telephone preference service”. he actually said my name and postcode which freaked me out. told me i was getting some kind of upgrade to block international marketing calls automatically. then he tried to get me to confirm my visa expiry date, which i said no to. he kept pushing but i knew it was fishy. definitely a scam, best to ignore. i made sure to report it.

About not replying straightaway - it’s some sort of voice-activated system that blasts out loads of calls from a computer. They only respond when you say something, so in your case, staying quiet is probably the best bet! There’s not much we can do against these phone firms except maybe not paying their bills, but imagine if a whole lot of people did that. I’m thinking of changing my number and making my landline unlisted to avoid all the hassle.

I just received a rather intrusive call where they wanted to verify my name and address and then inquired if I was under 75 years old. They then proceeded to ask me about the expiration date on a visa, which, to be frank, I don't even possess. I made it clear that such questions were none of their concern, and they promptly hung up. The caller had a distinctly foreign accent. I can't help but wonder how on earth they got hold of my information. It was quite unsettling, to say the least!
