Rings a few times during the day but stays silent. It’s just like loads of other wastes of time: they use some automated setup that dials loads of numbers at the same time, and when someone answers, it takes them a few seconds to clock that it’s a real person - that’s why there’s the delay. Getting constant annoying calls every day from Advise direct. What’s the use of ICO/TPS when they’re ex-directory anyway? We’ve told them plenty of times to remove us from their list but no luck. Some even have the nerve to say there’s no option to opt out - we never signed up in the first place! It’s wrong they can get hold of and use our info like this. Got two calls today from these lot even tho I told them ages ago to remove me from their lists! I’m on the do not call register and my number’s ex-directory, so anyone saying they’re from Advise Direct or some telemarketing service - which is probably dodgy - really shouldn’t have my info to start with! Got a call today from 01254470985, first one was some bloke asking for my husband about noise complaints in a factory or sumthin, I said no thanks. Then about an hour later a woman calls askin for a bloke by name, said he don’t live here. Then 5 minutes after that same woman rings again sayin she thought my partner worked at the royal air force, I corrected her and said I’m married, she then admitted her mate gave her the wrong number. All of ‘em claimed to be from some workers’ union office or somethin.

Got a ring today from someone asking for me by name. When I asked who they were, the lady said something about Grimsby Workers. She was asking if I’d ever worked in any kind of industry. I told her I wasn’t sure what she meant, so she tried again, asking if I’d worked in a factory. I said no, and then she asked if anyone else living here had worked in that sort of job. Had a ring from this number earlier today. The bloke spoke with a Lancashire accent and claimed to be calling from The Hartlepool Workers Centre (never came across it before). He knew my first and last name and asked if I had ever worked in a noisy environment. When I said yes, he mentioned I hadn’t made any claims for industrial health compensation and offered to sort it out for me. I told him he was wasting his time as the age limit was 75 and I’m actually 81. After that, he just said sorry and put the phone down.

I got three calls from them within an hour. Luckily, I’ve got a call blocker set up on my phone so I only get calls from people I want. The system makes them say who they are first before they can get through. You can also see all the calls in the app, even if they don’t get past the blocker, same as someone else mentioned here. Honestly, it’s really handy. You decide who you pick up for. If it’s important and legit, they’ll say their name and then you just press a button to accept. It really stops all the annoying calls.

The BT call guardian thing on this phone is really good at blocking unwanted calls, you don’t even notice they tried to call as it makes them say who they are first before you pick up, and then plays it back to you. If they do say their name, you can decide whether to answer or not. Definitely worth checking out if you get loads of annoying calls.
