They instructed me to hold down the Windows key and R, which supposedly grants them access to run commands on my machine. It soon became apparent that their intention was to disable my system and then demand payment for its restoration. When I pressed them to verify their identity as representatives of Virgin Media, they simply provided a reference number to type in, rather than directing me to the official Virgin Media website or my router.
