Had the very same thing happen to me through Shpock, from the exact same individual. Only difference is I’ve been messing about with them, pretending to be keen on the purchase going ahead. Told them I’m out most of the day and will sort PayPal details when I’m back 😂😂 So they've been sat there all day probably thinking I’m a complete mug falling for it. Just sent them an email asking what info they needed again cause I 'forgot'. Now just waiting for their reply before sending a funny picture for a bit of a laugh 😂😂

I put up an ad on Shpock to sell a chair and got a quick response from [email protected]. They said something like, "Great, consider it sold. Please cancel any other viewings as I’m happy to pay your asking price. It’s a gift for my cousin and I’ve read the whole advert, I’m happy with everything. Unfortunately, I can’t come in person to pick it up because I use a wheelchair and have hearing problems. I’ve arranged for a courier to collect it from wherever you want, once you get paid via PayPal. Could you tell me where the chair is so I can let the courier know?" I’m so relieved I found this discussion and immediately pulled the plug on the sale!

Barely 10 minutes after I put up an ad on Gumtree, this number messaged me. It just felt off, too speedy to be genuine! This individual has also popped up on the Liverpool Gumtree page. Their emails really give off scam vibes. They’re super persistent and a bit too pushy. When I told them I didn’t use PayPal but offered to show the bed I was selling and suggested a bank transfer if they were interested, they suddenly went quiet.

Had a very similar experience like the previous comment! Someone called called Anita Cole about a sofa I put up for sale. She said she couldn't pick it up personally and would arrange for a courier to do it, and that she'd pay through PayPal. Then she mentioned transferring the total amount including courier fees so I could pass it on to the courier. It all felt a bit dodgy. Wish I'd looked it up earlier! Blocked her now and will be more careful next time.

Something similar happened to me recently. This woman kept insisting I send £200 to a courier via a bank transfer, saying she’d already sent me the money through PayPal. She said she couldn’t go to a bank because she’s deaf and disabled or something like that. I was a bit suspicious, so I checked her number and there was no sign of any PayPal payment. Got a text that said “Reminder: Your appointment at Kingdom of Beauty Ltd is on 11/4/19 at 09:00. Please reply 105 to confirm”. When I told her I hadn’t received any money, her emails got really nasty and she started threatening me with legal stuff. Don’t deal with this number or person, it’s definitely a SCAM.

What a terrible, cruel person asking me to buy two prams, then spouting that rubbish about cancer - completely disgusting, especially when my little one is only a year old and battling cancer. Got a message from a woman named Beatrice saying she wanted to buy my sofa. She claimed she had throat cancer and couldn’t leave her house, so she’d send someone to pick it up. Then she mentioned there was an issue with the payment and that the collector needed paying upfront. I got an email from [email protected][###] sayin they wanted stuff I was selling on Gumtree. It felt a bit dodgy right away so I googled the email and found this site, lucky me. I replied sayin you’re a scammer, leave me alone haha.

Got a text from this number claiming to be Mr Wayne, asking me to reach out to his wife Louisa Wayne at some gmail address. I naively replied and then got some story about him having throat cancer and needing payment through PayPal with an agent coming to collect. Felt fishy so I looked up the number and all these warnings popped up. TOTAL SCAM, STAY CLEAR!!

This woman calling herself Marie Bancroft contacted me on my mobile, number 071252236326, and via email at [email protected][###], about a pram I had listed on Gumtree. She claimed she was suffering from throat cancer and promised to send someone to pick it up once the PayPal payment cleared. Thankfully, my partner had a gut feeling something was off and stopped the deal just in time! Be careful with this one!!!

Got a message from someone on Gumtree pretending to wanna buy my stuff. They said they'd organise a courier to pick it up and pay through PayPal. Said they couldn't come over themselves cause they're deaf and stuck at home recovering from heart surgery. Good thing I looked them up here first, felt like a scam.

Sc@m! Replied to my Gumtree advert. Claiming to be in a wheelchair and deaf. Asked me to contact a Melissa Hogan through Gmail ([email protected]). Wanted to send money through PayPal and organise a courier. You can guess what happened next, ‘problems with PayPal, can you give me your bank details?’ - all dodgy stuff! Keep clear of this scammer!

Watch out for a Gumtree con!!! Someone called Kate Gregory gets in touch, telling you to remove your ad because they’ve supposedly sold the item. She offers more money than your asking price. Don’t trust the first text from this number - she’ll ask you to email her. Seems really suspicious right from the start!

Got the same thing from Melissa, she wants to buy my sofa, says it's a present for her cousin. Says she can’t come see it cause she’s disabled. Kinda felt dodgy so I looked it up and loads of people had had the same story. I guess next she’d say there’s an issue with PayPal and ask for my bank info to send money. I’ve blocked her number and marked her email as spam now.

WATCH OUT, total tw#t messaged me about my sofa I put up on Gumtree, saying she loved it and wanted to buy it as a present for her cousin. had the exact same thing from a Mrs Ellie using the same phone number, on Gumtree, talking about throat cancer and asking for a PayPal address and all that. I’m guessing they pay for the stuff, pick it up, then claim with PayPal they never got it, which PayPal always sides with the buyer on and gives a refund. And just like that, scam complete. Seller ends up losing out big time.

Got two texts today from this number, asking about buying my nursery stuff off Gumtree. Same old story about having throat cancer and not being able to speak. They even said they've sent me money and wanted me to visit Western Union to cover courier costs since they can’t leave the house.

Got an email asking about some furniture I was selling on Gumtree. I replied with a way over the top price compared to what I actually asked and they said it was a good deal, then went on about some cancer stuff, which was really low since I lost my own brother to throat cancer. Honestly, what a total jerk for bringing that up. Hope they get what’s coming to them!!!

Just like Kate Gregory said, I found an address in Lincoln linked to this and passed it to the cops. Also told PayPal about it. Someone’s probably gonna get a knock on the door soon. Best to steer well clear of them.

Got a message from someone called Kate Gregory, saying she was happy to pay the full price if I agreed to the offer. She claimed she'd had heart surgery and lost her hearing, and said she'd send a courier to pick up the wedding dress. When I said no, she pretty much begged me to do it via PayPal. Total scam alert!!!

Got a message from a bloke called Michael Elliot on my phone after I put an item on Gumtree. Next thing, I get emails from him saying he’ll pay full price but can’t talk because he’s got throat cancer, and that his agent would come to pick the stuff up. He claimed he’d sent payment through Paypal, but then asked me to send some of that money off to a US address using Western Union. I’ve told ‘Michael’ I know it’s a scam. Luckily, no cash changed hands and the Paypal email looked dodgy as hell. Watch out, this isn’t legit!
