Got a call from some bloke named Steve who said he was from Microsoft and that my PC was full of viruses. I instantly knew it was a con. I let him go on a bit, then told him he was rubbish at lying and he just ended the call.

No reply from them at all. After looking at our call history, I saw they've rung 4 times over just two days. Not sure if my missus picked up any of the earlier calls. I've blocked the number now. I guess the caller ID’s probably faked since they’d be caught otherwise - these scammers really are getting clever. Feels like scams are everywhere nowadays, it’s a proper nightmare.

Steve phoned twice today around 9 in the morning and then again about 10.17, claiming there was a hack on my computer and that he was with Microsoft. I told him I don’t actually run Microsoft on any of my devices, I only use Linux. He didn’t seem too pleased when I mentioned that!

If you don’t fix it, your PC will crash." I know all their tricks, so I played along for a bit, then said, "If that’s the case, there must be an issue." Then I hit them with this - "Actually, I don’t even use Microsoft, I’m on Linux." They went quiet, so I ended the call. Up till now, they’ve been polite, but I wouldn’t trust them completely.

When I told him I was waiting on an important call from the hospital and needed the phone line free, he was really unpleasant. I said sorry and explained I couldn't chat because it was about my husband's surgery and whether I could go see him or not. Just under 5 hours ago they called last time, and since then their number has been looked up over 100 times with six new comments added. Yet, like always, they didn’t bother leaving a message. This number called me about 17 hours ago and it shows no info about who's calling. There are loads of searches and comments on it but no actual messages left. The calls all sound the same every time too. If they can’t even be bothered to leave a simple voicemail, why on earth should I bother calling back? Got a ring about 5 minutes ago. I heard out this person with an Asian accent (why do these calls always seem to be from someone Asian?) for a bit, then told them I’d let my son know once he’s back. He’s usually busy with his IT job anyway. After that, I ended the call. Honestly, that’s the safest move. Never do what they instruct you, it’s super risky.
