Phone number ☎️ 01246607989 👆 is reported as a frequent source of scam calls claiming to be from BT, often involving a caller named Michael who alleges issues with old copper lines or fibre optic installations. Genuine callers from BT typically verify identity by sending a PIN, which scammers do not provide. Calls often occur after typical working hours and may use spoofed or rotating local numbers, making them hard to trace. Some callers wrongly threaten disconnection or request fees, while genuine BT communications tend to focus on checking service migration or offering assistance without pressure. Caution and verification are advised, especially when asked for personal details or payments, as many reports describe these calls as deceitful and disruptive.

7 monthsSaid his name was Michael and an engineer in our area reported that we were still using copper lines (not true) & that we needed to switch immediately (we switched 5 years ago). Told him if he was really calling from BT he would know that wasn't true but he tried saying as he was technical he didn't have access to our records.Asked him to send me a pin number which BT always due to prove they are genuine and he said he could only send it to the account holder who he named, pointed out to him that the man he named was not the account holder & he hung up on me! Obviously a scam callMichaelBT8 monthsGot calls from some dodgy Chesterfield number, prob fake and coming through some untraceable VOIP system. They choose to call after 6pm, when most folks are back from work which is a big sign it's dodgy. The numbers keep changing but all start with 0124660*, so if you don't have family or anyone in Chesterfield you can block the whole range using a wildcard. Saves a lot of hassle!Chesterfield8 monthsGot a call from some bloke claiming to be with BT, saying there was a fibre optic job near us. I told him he sounded dodgy because BT doesn’t ring people for this sort of thing - they use Openreach for fibre installs and wouldn't ask customers over the phone. Then he mentioned a £100 charge for the service, and that was it for me, I just hung up. The caller spoke with a Yorkshire accent too.BT8 monthsSomeone rang me pretending to work for BT infrastructure. They asked for a number to call back on, started giving me a mobile but then asked for my landline before abruptly ending the call. I decided to call them back. When I asked for his name, he said Michael O'Donnell. I questioned why he had ended the call earlier, and he claimed the line got cut. When I asked for his direct extension, he hung up on me again. People like this are so frustrating, wasting time and being dishonest.Michael O ' Donnell1 yearGot a phone call from BT about bringing fibre to our area and retiring the old system.
