I got a call from an Asian woman who claimed to be from Ofcom, but the number they were calling from matched one in Gurugram, Haryana, India. Funny thing is, back in November 2018, news stories reported that the police shut down 9 fake call centres in that area linked to international scams. The complaints were filed by Microsoft. A lot of these scam calls seem to come from India. Maybe our Foreign Office should take a page out of Microsoft’s playbook and talk with the Indian authorities to try and put a stop to these dodgy calls that bother British phone users.

Got a robo call saying it was some official government thing about updating internet connections. They asked me to stay on the line so someone could help me.

Honestly, these muppets crack me up. Like others have said, I got an automated call supposedly from Ofcom about 'updating' my broadband speed. When this woman with an accent - sounded Eastern Asian to me - finally spoke and claimed she was from Ofcom, I told her straight up, “Ofcom wouldn’t ring you asking that kinda stuff.” She seemed like she might try to argue but then just hung up on me. Maybe my chuckling threw her off! I reckon I could’ve kept her talking for ages and just wasted her time and cash.

Got another call like that, really annoying how these scam calls keep coming through. I’m getting proper sick of it all now.

Somebody called saying my internet would be disconnected automatically and told me to hold on for a ‘advisor’. I ended the call straight away. No legit company would threaten you like that. It’s definitely a scam. If you can block the number, do it!

Got a robo call claiming my internet wasn’t up to the gov’s regulations and that it’d be cut off soon.

I had a similar experience, they said they were from Ofcom. Instead of actually waiting for someone, I just put them on hold which gave me a chance to block their number when they called again.
