I recently received a rather peculiar phone call from a bloke with a scouse accent, who inquired about my husband by name. Curious about the purpose of his call, I pressed him for details, and he uttered a rather familiar line that I’d heard the previous day from a woman who was also addressing me directly-something along the lines of 'You or someone at your residence has been involved in a car accident.' Naturally, I denied it. Then he switched tactics, claiming 'someone at your address has had an accident within the last three years.' To which I again replied in the negative. It was at this point he accused me of raising my voice, despite my calm demeanor. I mentioned that my number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service, which should mean I shouldn’t be receiving such calls. His response was that I-or someone else-had initiated the conversation. I firmly dismissed that notion! As I pressed for clarification, they attempted to shift the blame onto me, claiming I must have consented to these nuisance calls due to PPI, road accident claims, or will-writing services, as they purported to be a legal firm. If you happen to ring them back, you'll just end up hearing their voicemail message, which drones on about how "the office is currently closed.
