Recently, our elderly mother received a phone call from a number claiming to be a debt collector for the area. The caller alleged that she owed a sum of £1,000. When she explained that there had been an obvious mix-up and that it was likely the wrong number, the caller didn't back down. After a brief exchange, she ultimately decided to hang up. Following that, she used the 1471 service to find out the number and tried calling it back, only to discover it was unrecognised. Quite the kerfuffle!

I asked for someone named Edwin, but it turns out there's nobody by that moniker residing at this address, and there never has been. As soon as I mentioned this, the caller abruptly hung up on me. They didn't provide any other information, but I could definitely detect an accent in their voice.

I received a call from a lady speaking with an Asian accent, claiming to represent the National Consumer Council. She informed me that we had been pre-approved for a freeze on our credit card interest rates. The moment we questioned her about how she obtained our credit card information and our phone number, she insisted that she wasn't trying to sell anything. Naturally, we wanted to look into it further, so we tried calling the number back, but all we got was an automated message saying that the number wasn’t in service. Quite suspicious, I must say!

I received a peculiar call the other day from a woman who had quite a noticeable Asian accent. She claimed to be associated with the Office of Fair Trading and mentioned something about a significant debt linked to this address, amounting to a staggering x,000. Naturally, we asked for her contact number so we could get in touch later-rather odd of her to provide it, I must say! When we inquired about her location, she insisted she was calling from the OFT up in Manchester, but the number didn’t match up with theirs. She introduced herself as Samantha, but we’ve decided against returning the call for now.

I'm fed up with these numpties constantly ringing! We get a couple of calls from them every single day, it's downright annoying. Is there any way to put a stop to this nonsense?

These folks gave us a bell twice today, but, alas, we were not around to answer. Tried to figure out who they were and stumbled upon this discussion. Well done to all of you!

A lady with an Asian accent rang us and claimed to be from the Office of Fair Trading. She mumbled a few things regarding someone at our address having debts totalling X,000. We thought it strange and asked for her number to return the call, which she surprisingly gave us. When we probed about where she was calling from, she mentioned the OFT in Manchester. However, that number didn’t match any we found for them. She introduced herself as Samantha, but we’ve decided not to ring back. Quite peculiar, if you ask me!

I received a call this evening from a young lady claiming to be with the Office of Fair Trading. She repeatedly asked for verification, which he provided, yet the moment he asked for additional details to confirm her identity, she abruptly hung up. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

A chap identifying himself as Stanley gave us a ring, his accent thick with South African tones. He inquired when the owner of the phone would be available for a chat. Landline, you say? He mentioned he worked for a Debt Management company but wouldn’t disclose the name of the firm. So, I politely suggested he take a long walk off a short pier!

I've had the same number, 01245545658, calling me repeatedly. It's a woman with an African accent, and honestly, she reminds me of that Phonejacker character! She keeps going on about debts that I clearly don’t owe. When I told her there weren’t any debts, she sounded quite bewildered but continues to ring back. Who are these so-called ‘ice road truckers’ and how on earth do they get hold of my number? It's baffling! Why haven't BT or the police taken any action against these nuisances? It's really quite frustrating!

I received a call from a woman speaking with an Asian accent who claimed to represent the National Consumer Council. She said we had been pre-qualified for a freeze on our credit card interest rates. When I pressed her about how she knew we had a credit card and where she had obtained our phone number, she insisted she wasn’t trying to sell us anything. I took note of the number from my phone log and tried calling it back, but all I got was an automated message saying the line wasn’t working. Quite suspicious, wouldn’t you say?

Received a call from someone with a rather thick accent - it was quite difficult to make out what they were saying. Something about a 'credit balance', I believe.

I received a call from someone with a thick, difficult-to-understand accent regarding some ‘overdue credit’ or similar. It was rather perplexing and I couldn’t quite catch the details they were on about.

Received a call just a moment ago. The moment I answered, the caller abruptly ended the call without saying a word. Odd behaviour, to say the least.

We received a rather alarming call earlier, supposedly regarding outstanding credit card debts. The lady on the line had quite a pronounced Indian accent and began by asking for details about our financial situation. However, when we hesitated to divulge any information, her attitude took a turn for the worse. She became rather irritable and claimed she couldn't assist us without the necessary details. Honestly, it was a bit much when she sweetly referred to us as 'love' just before we hung up on her. My daughter tried to call back the number straight away, but to no surprise, it turned out to be unreachable.

Simply request that they hang on for a moment as there’s someone at the door. After that, scuttle off to prepare yourself a lovely cuppa. I assure you, by the time that kettle whistles, those callers will have vanished. If they’re still hanging about, just claim the doorbell has rung once more and ask if they wouldn’t mind waiting while you attend to it!
