Got a call from a lady who sounded like she was from a curry background, with a kid screaming non stop behind her. She said she was from British Gas and wanted to talk to the owner about renewing our contract. Classic energy scam, all trying to get you to sign up again. We’re already on the TPS list though.

Somebody with a heavy accent called, wanting to talk to the boss. Since we're on the TPS list, I immediately guessed it was either a scam or some dodgy sales pitch. Told them straight up the boss doesn't bother with calls like this and hung up while they were still rambling. Checked this site afterwards and yep, I was spot on. Blocked the number. Honestly, as long as BT lets people use VOIP and fake their caller ID (like these lot do), we'll keep getting nonstop calls from the Indian subcontinent.

Got a call asking if I was the owner of a business, so I said yes. The person on the other end claimed to be from Eon, saying I'd got some outstanding bills. Thing is, I've never had any dealings with Eon at all. I told them to provide details and dates because they were mistaken. But instead of listening, they started arguing and wouldn't accept that I wasn’t their customer. Really pushy and persistent. Be careful and don’t share any details with people like this!

Got a call from some bloke with a heavy accent trying to flog me electricity renewal. He rattled off the name of my provider, probably from some public database or something. But then he totally messed it up by inventing a random account number and completely bunged up the date when my contract finishes. Couldn't take him seriously after that.

YET ANOTHER ENERGY FRAUD CALL I asked to speak with the business owner - they said NO, and when I asked why, they just replied BECAUSE I SAID SO. They claimed my contract with Smartest Energy was up for renewal, which is odd since I just renewed it back in May 2024. They offered to send over some info, but I told them to hold off as I want to look into this before getting back to them. Blocked the number straight away - they kept ringing and just wasting my time.

I received a call from someone purporting to be from E.on, claiming to be my electricity supplier. They insisted that my contract was about to expire. However, the property they were referring to is an off-grid field, which makes their claims quite dubious. When I pressed for proof of this supposed contract, their tone turned hostile, and they accused me of being dishonest! I've since reported this to Action Fraud.

The number looked dodgy straight away, so I told him I was still looking around and would ring Eon myself to sort it out. The call kept cutting out, seemed like they were putting me on hold. I asked if he was with Eon or just from some comparison company, and he insisted he was directly from Eon. I looked up the number afterwards and clearly that's not true. Watch out for this one!

After contacting N Power directly, they confirmed that they hadn't made any calls to me. When I confronted the caller about this discrepancy, he became quite irate. Definitely a scammer!

Someone rang me saying they were from British Gas, but it was all a trick. They managed to get me signed up for a dodgy contract with much higher fees. After that, they passed it over to Utility Bidder. Neither British Gas nor Utility Bidder would sort it out for me. In the end, I had to contact the energy ombudsman just to get the contract cancelled. I’d seriously avoid this company and Utility Bidder altogether.
