Although everything seems legit (and I guess they might be doing some good work), they’re super sneaky in making me believe they were linked to the police and working with our neighbourhood school. Actually, it’s just a private company trying to sell books. The school hasn’t really been asked if they want or need those books. Being a small business owner myself, I’m all for supporting local efforts, but after feeling proper duped by these folks, I’d rather check with the school directly about what they need and then get it from whichever company they pick.

It used to be Community Initiatives Associates with a guy called Ian Jackson, but now it’s called Embrace Education, led by Kelly Griffiths, and they’ve switched to pulling scams involving school books.

I own a small shop in Shrewsbury and recently helped out my daughter’s school by sponsoring an anti-social behaviour project. They handed out the books to a group of 30 kids, and the school mentioned they really appreciated my support.

I’ve been dealing with this company for a while now and honestly, the negative reviews here don’t seem right to me! From what I can tell, it’s a brilliant idea - giving local businesses a way to back a school in their area. I’ve been sponsoring my child’s primary school for two years running and have been quite pleased with how this company’s been helping out our community with my backing.

Somebody called saying they were from the police, going on about Barney and Echo stuff, asking for cash to put ads in school books to teach kids about stranger danger online. Sounds like that dodgy advertising scam that’s been around for ages!

A bloke phoned me saying he was from the Police Commission, talking about buying books to support Barney and Echo in schools. He asked if I knew about it and I said no, but mentioned I’ve heard about loads of scams like this going around. Right away he said ‘Alright, I’ll send it by post’ and then just hung up. There’s a website but it’s dodgy, I’ve been tricked by these lot before - it’s definitely a con.

Got a call from somewhere in Llay, which I managed to track down to North Wales. The caller claimed to be from the Police Community Clubs, but when I looked up the number, it showed the same place as a car dealership, Carter and Haines or summat. The person said they was a PC, but when I told them I’d just given money to the PCC in Chester, they just hung up. Quite suspicious if you ask me.

Got a call from 0330 016 0066 about a Police Community Club internet safety campaign. I've used this site loads to check sales calls and it's been really handy, but lately, when I search for unknown numbers it doesn’t show up. The guy who called today wasn’t pushy though, but I’ll wait and see if he rings back - usually you have to be quite blunt to get off the phone, so maybe he’s new at this! My partner recently signed up for a schools bullying campaign and I warned him it might be a scam, so I’m expecting quite a few calls like this coming through.

I got a call from someone wanting me to purchase books for nearby schools. Felt like a scam but the lady sounded REALLY believable, said there was no payment needed for 30 days. I told her I’d look into the programme and she sent me a link by email. I’m going to report this to the police.

Got a call from a woman named Christine in Chester on 01244360822. She claimed to be with the Police community. Another linked number was 01244316629. Oddly, she even forwarded BACS payment details with the reference Police community clubs GB, Sort code 40-10-22, Account number 32171740. She mentioned something about distributing 15 books at school for £6 each, totalling £90. They're going after small or new businesses. Definitely a SCAM!!

Got a call from someone called Charlotte about paying for internet safety books from a firm in Chester claiming they're the police clubs. They said I couldn’t get a welcome pack unless I ordered 15 books costing £90. Checked with the school and they said they never send those books out, plus Charlotte actually works for a printing firm owned by a guy named Ian.

Got a call from WPC Liz Stanton, really nice lady trying to raise funds for local projects. Bit strange it was from a mobile but said she was from the police. I looked up the number, it’s from Hoole Chester and apparently they’re linked with Costa Coffee sponsorship, so seemed legit. I also saw the same number being used by Community Angels Chester, Community Guardians Chester, The Policing Portal Rossett, and Crime Stoppers Rossett.

Community Police? We live in Lincolnshire so why is the call coming from a Chester/Wales number? They were trying to sell an ad spot in a magazine for £180 - £250! Said they'd email all the info. Nah, no thanks mate.

Someone called saying they were from the community police, running courses at primary schools about anti-social behaviour, charging £6 a kid with a minimum of 10 kids, so £60. They were quite pushy and didn’t really explain things properly when I asked questions. Told them I was going out and they’d have to call back, which they did three more times but I just ignored it. Later I googled the number and when they rang the next day I told them I reported them to the police and didn’t say anything else - guess what!! Be careful, these tricksters are smart!

Had a similar call to the others here. The person said they were with the Police, trying to get donations for local youth clubs and wanted to fundraise through adverts in the Police magazine. Everything seemed alright till they asked me to pay by card, claiming there'd be a discount. Felt a bit dodgy, so I didn't hand over any details. Curious to see if they'll ring again.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me like the others here. They rang saying they were from the Police and needed money to support youth activities around here, saying they raise it through ads in a Police newsletter. Everything seemed alright until they wanted card details for a ‘discounted’ payment. That’s when I got suspicious and refused. I’m curious to see if they’ll call again or what their next move is.

Someone called me saying they were from the police community clubs, helping out kids. They wanted me to sponsor schools by buying "barney and echo" books. I fell for it and paid. A few months later the same number rang again, so I checked with the local school to see if they got any books from me. The headteacher said no, and told me to get in touch with the police and my bank. The police told me to report it to Action Fraud.

Almost got me today in South Tyneside. A small car dealership called me with the usual tale, saying they were from the "police" and wanted us to advertise in some kind of "awareness" magazine. Then they mentioned my colleague would get back to discuss payment, saying it was £255 for 4 issues (quarterly), reaching 15,000 copies across South Tyneside. Nearly fell for it, but thought it was odd the police would be asking for cash to cover advert costs when surely they have funds already sorted. Total scam, watch out!
