Today I got a call about renewing my homeguard insurance which I started back in 2016. I was a bit confused as I didn’t remember agreeing to anything. They said they’ve been taking £55 from my account every three months. I asked which account and when the last payment was, but I told them they’d need to refund me since I never asked for this cover. She offered to put me through to a manager, I said yes, then the call just dropped. I’ve got a callblocker app I found at the bottom of this page and added their number - it flagged it as a scam. Lucky I did, caught them just as they were still on the line. Stay safe everyone.

Got a call from a polite woman who asked if she could talk to my wife (which is actually my name). I told her she wasn’t here right now and asked who was calling, then she just ended the call straight away.

I got a call about my tv subscription, she was sure I signed up back in 2016 but I told her no way. Then she tried to restart the payments, but I said I never agreed to that. She asked how much I paid, said it was over £100, but I honestly don’t remember. I told her I first got it on the 30th August 2016 - feeling like I’m seeing pink elephants or something with all this confusion lol.

He picked up the phone the first time after one ring, and they told him to fetch a pen and paper, which made him think they were after his bank info, so he hung up. They tried calling twice more but he didn’t pick up those times.

Spoke to a polite young bloke claiming he was from a drainage firm, used to be called Homeguard, asking about our insurance. He said we had no cover, then hung up on me. Bit cheeky if you ask me.

Loads of calls from these lot! I ended up speaking to a bloke who got pretty annoyed and insisted I give him my bank info. They already knew some of my details like a password and the last four digits of my card. I reckon I know how they've got hold of that info.

The number 01243 767858 called my elderly dad today claiming to be from a drainage company going over his insurance details. I happened to walk in while he was on the phone and was alarmed to see him holding his bank card and repeating out numbers to them (I cut the call off straight away). Dad says he didn’t actually tell them anything, but they had read out some digits and asked if it was his bank card, and somehow he ended up sharing info about it. This sounds really dodgy to me!

1. Find out how they got hold of your info. 2. Request evidence of your permission for the call. 3. Gather as much info about the firm as possible like their phone number, company name and the name of whoever you talked to. 4. Tell them to erase your details from their records and not to call you anymore. 5. Reach out to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) on 0303 123 113 with all the details you’ve got, as they probably have breached your personal data.

The so called home guard keeps ringing from different phone numbers asking for bank info and trying to sell some phone protection that we dont even have with them. The last number they called from was 07561060106.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT. Just leaving a comment here won’t actually stop the calls from these companies. However, if you follow the easy instructions I’ll share next, you can help get them shut down and stop them from bothering others, especially those who might be more vulnerable. Thanks to new data protection laws, you have greater rights now, and the ICO can hand out hefty fines - but only if they’re aware of the problem.

This company seems legit to me, they actually honoured the warranty claim I made. Not sure why folks are calling them scammers. Plus, they even gave me a polite ring afterwards to check if everything was sorted and I was satisfied.

Got a call from this number today. The woman claimed she was from Home Guard and said I had insurance on my TV since 2015. I never did! I remember hearing that Home Guard went bust a while ago. Maybe these scammers got hold of their old phone list? Either way, it’s definitely a scam, steer clear.

Had a call from someone named Chris who said my name and mentioned a 2 year warranty on my TV and box stuff, starting Dec 2015. First year £99, second year free apparently. The number called me a few times in the past couple of days. He asked for my Visa debit card number start and last 4 digits. Told him to call me back which he did, only then I checked my records dating back to that time and found I never paid anything. When I told him that, he just hung up on me.

Got a call asking about my mum (who passed away over 2 years ago) about a "warranty on the TV at the house." The thing is, my mum never even owned a TV! Seems like they’re trying to scam older folks into buying fake warranty extensions or something. When I asked what brand the TV was, the caller just hung up in a really rude way. Tried calling back to report it but the voicemail was full.
