I received a rather dubious phone call from someone claiming to be from BT, stating that there was an issue with my internet connection. He insisted that I should follow his directions and download a particular app. The chap had a distinct foreign accent, reminiscent of someone from the subcontinent, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was dealing with a scammer!

Got a call claiming to be from BT about my internet connection earlier. The guy sounded quite friendly but had a noticeable South Asian accent. He started explaining what he was going to do next. I asked him two things: first, if he could see my screen - he said yes. Then I asked him to tell me my home address. He hesitated and admitted he didn’t have that info. I cut him off and ended the call right there. The number showed up with a 01242 area code, which is local to me, so I reckon it was a spoof. Just be careful with calls like this.
