A lady rang me, claiming to be from some research firm based in Edinburgh. She posed a couple of inquiries: firstly, whether I owned my home (to which I replied in the affirmative) and secondly, if I happened to win a voucher (which I clearly stated I wasn't keen on), would I prefer to splurge it on refurbishing my kitchen or my bathroom? I went for the bathroom option. She mentioned a code which, to be honest, I didn’t bother to jot down as I have no intention of engaging with any cold-call vouchers!

A bloke on the phone said he was from RBS Visa Fraud team, telling me two payments on my debit card looked suspicious and needed me to confirm them. Then he handed me over to the "Senior Fraud department" who asked for my name and postcode to verify me, followed by a request for my IP address so they could track down the source of the payments "to get them locked up". It all sounded pretty legit, apart from some odd background noise.

They said they were from Glasgow Research, doing a survey about possibly getting a voucher for your kitchen or bathroom. I told the woman to quit working for companies that try to trick people with fake surveys like that. She said sorry and mentioned how tough it is to find a job nowadays. I told her I'd report it anyway. I’m going to put them on the TPS list but honestly, I’m not sure it’ll make any difference.

I received a call purporting to be from a company named Edinburgh Research. They were looking for someone called Mrs D, but I informed them that she doesn’t reside here (as a point of interest, I’m not a Mrs, and anyone familiar with me would certainly know that). I expressed my lack of interest in their conversation, but before I could say more, they abruptly hung up on me.
