The scam aims at alarming recipients into engaging, but no genuine service or issue is involved.

My phone just gave a single beep and said the line is on hold, telling me to press the phone icon. If you just ignore it, it disappears after a few minutes. Really annoying! I reckon if you try calling back, it’s probably some expensive premium number.

Watch out! Someone called claiming to be from BT, but it was a total con. Don’t fall for it!

Got this call today from someone pretending to be with BT, said my internet and phone were at risk or something. Pretty daft really since BT isn't even my provider.

I received a rather unhelpful automated call instructing me to press 1 if I wished to speak to a technician regarding an issue that frankly doesn't even exist. I decided to end the conversation, yet strangely enough, this caller seems determined to reach me, as I keep getting bombarded with calls. Quite the nuisance, really!

Same thing happened to me. Got a call from someone claiming to be BT saying we used too much data or something like that, sounded like they had an Indian accent. When my missus passed the phone to me, they just hung up straight away. Definitely not legit! Makes me wonder why these numbers are still allowed to ring people.

This has been happening off and on for ages. I told BT about it but all they said was they know about it already. Not much help really, just wish I could tell them to piss off.

Just got a ring from this number saying my IP was hacked or something. The bloke said he was David Watson from BT, supposedly in London, but his accent was Indian and the call quality was really bad. He even gave me a London address, but you could hear other guys with Indian accents talking in the background, also saying they were from BT. Definitely looks like a scam. Tried to find a way to report it directly to BT but couldn’t, the only option seems to be reporting through Action Fraud’s online site.

Just happened to me as well! When I asked if I was the account holder, they said yes (which is wrong, it’s my partner). As soon as I started questioning them and mentioned the lack of data protection confirmation, they quickly hung up. Well, no surprises there! Absolute thieves!!!

Got a call around 30 mins back and it felt a bit off, so I just hung up. Good thing I found this website to look it up.

It appears that this online service has been jeopardised, presenting a significant threat to security. Seems like a scam, doesn’t it?

Had pretty much the same thing happen to us - a woman claiming to be from BT chatting to my wife about us going over some data limit or something dodgy like that. She sounded Indian or Asian. When my wife passed me the phone, the caller just hung up. Totally suspicious! Seriously, why aren’t these scammers’ numbers blocked already???

In just 30 minutes, I've had about five calls from the same number but different voices each time. It’s clearly some kind of scam. This needs to be blocked or something. So annoying!

Yep, they were after my IP details too.

I missed a call from this number earlier today around 10:45, but I wasn't home to pick up. From past experience, I figured it was probably one of those scam calls - I've had a few people with Indian accents ring me before pretending to work for BT, saying there’s an issue with my internet. So I just ignored it.

Got a call about my BT internet, sounded like some kind of call centre. I’ve had a few other calls from different numbers about it too, but we dont even use BT! Ended up just hanging up. You can tell it’s coming from somewhere else since when you pick up, it gets dead silent before they finally speak.

I received a call at 1:40 PM on 6th June. Just like many others, I did a quick search for the number online. It turned out to be the same old story. An American-sounding automated voice informed me that my internet service provider was about to cut off my account.

I've received two calls from this number today, but as soon as I pick up, they just disconnect. Anyone have an idea who it might be?

Got a call from some really dodgy sounding computer voice with an American accent saying my IP was at risk and they were gonna disconnect me in a day. Then it asked me to press one to talk to a tech or something. Sounds like a total scam to me.

They keep saying they’ll cut off your phone if you don’t press 1. It’s so annoying - why isn’t there a way to put an end to this?

I've had something similar happen. I got an answerphone message from a woman with an American accent, but it sounded really robotic, saying my phone line was in trouble or hacked, something about California, and that it would soon be disconnected. When I got back today, I found no new messages but when I checked with 1471, it showed a call was made earlier from 01235 425487. Are these con artists really running out of ideas now?

Just like the others mentioned before, I let him go on for a while to hear what nonsense he’d say. But the moment I asked where exactly he was calling from, he just cut the call straight away! Total wankers and just wasting my time!

My phone showed 1471 ringing around 8 in the morning while I was still tucked up in bed. By the time I managed to pick up, the call had already ended. When I punched in the area code, it came up as Abingdon, but I haven’t got anyone I know there. So, I checked this site to find out if others had been called by the same number. Very glad I missed it - definitely wouldn’t have hit 1 if I had answered!

Looks like the scammers are really clutching at straws now! I could tell it was some robot voice (with an American twang) trying to freak us out. Bet it’s still coming from some call centre in Mumbai. Best just to ignore it, don’t respond (that’s exactly what they’re after), and simply put them on your blocked list.

Got a call yesterday, 13th August, from someone with a really thick Asian accent that was hard to understand. They claimed they were from BT, which is odd cos I don't even use BT. Said something about a computer linked to my line downloading some dodgy files that might be for hacking or whatever. Didn’t hang about - I just cut the call straight away.

Got a call on my landline from someone with an Asian accent claiming to be from BT. They said my internet was at risk of being cut off because my BT account was “compromised” or something. Thing is, I don’t even have BT, but I played along just to see what they’d say. They asked if I had a laptop or computer and if I was using it. Went to check just to humour them. Then I told them I’d saved their number and was going to report it to the police since it was obviously a scam. I told them to stop bothering innocent people and to bugger off.
