At eight in the evening, my home phone went off, and on the other end was a rather unpersuasive woman claiming to represent Aviva Life. She wanted to ask me a few questions, but honestly, it was the wrong moment, so I cut the conversation short. Something about it felt off, and after reading through other people's experiences, I’m relieved I didn’t entertain it any longer. I’ve since made sure to block that number.

Got quite a few calls from this number lately. I recently spoke with AVIVA and from what I’ve read it might be a follow-up survey. Whether it’s a scam or legit, I’m not happy AVIVA is sharing my details with a marketing firm. They could just email me and ask me to fill it in online. Got a call today from this number, it was from a place in Bedford, a Market Research firm asking about how satisfied I was with a recent service I used. The person on the phone only asked about my experience and didn’t try to get any private details. Folks are just making it out to be a scam when it’s clear they’re a genuine company called Walnut Unlimited.

Sounds like a legit market research call to me. Usually these people ring after you’ve dealt with a business to ask how happy you were with their service. They usually say upfront it’s a survey. The tricky bit is you can’t always tell if it’s real or a scammer just trying to get your details to pass on. I’d say it’s safer to just ignore and block, but it probably isn’t a scam in itself.

If you’ve partaken in a survey lately, it’s not uncommon for the firm behind it to ring you up just to confirm you genuinely filled it out, as they receive compensation for every survey that gets wrapped up. I had a chat with them just yesterday, and I can vouch that it's all perfectly above board!

So this number just popped up on my caller ID and I decided to answer. A lady was doing a pretty detailed survey about the Sizewell nuclear scheme. She asked loads of precise questions only about the planned project, hardly anything personal or asking for my info. I looked up the number after (thanks to 1471) and found this site. Two comments down I’ve detailed exactly how to deal with these scam calls. If all the thousands of folks in the UK who get hit by these scam texts and calls every day actually took these steps, the police and government would be forced to take proper action to put a stop to these crooks. Don’t just expect someone else to sort it. It really doesn’t take much time. I’ve got the ‘Action Fraud’ site bookmarked and even got in touch with my MP - received a pretty ‘interesting’ reply though. But it’s no use just me doing it alone.

Got a call from a woman (though I reckon it was a recorded message) claiming to be from Aviva, saying they wanted to do a survey. She knew the policy holder’s name but couldn’t really chat back properly, like a real person would. Felt a bit off so I ended the call. Somebody called claiming to be with Aviva. I'd just been in touch with Aviva pensions not long before, so I wasn’t shocked to get a follow-up call. It seemed like a standard survey about their service to me. I was about to cut off if they asked me to "verify" any of my personal info. A polite lady called asking about a pension linked to Aviva that I hadn’t heard about before. Foolishly, I mentioned I was still waiting on the paperwork they promised! I’m going to ring Aviva to chase it up and also check with BT about my landline number, which is meant to be unlisted. Definitely a lesson learnt here - getting older doesn’t mean much without getting smarter! From now on, I won’t answer my landline unless I know who’s calling (thankfully, I have friends who ring and I can see the number). No more falling for scammers on my watch!

Got a call from someone saying they were HMRC and asking how comfortable I am with the internet and how I went about applying for my passport. I answered some of their questions and wondered what it had to do with my passport, but as soon as they asked if I do internet banking, I just put the phone down.

Last night at about 20:25, I got a call on my mobile from 01234 987449. A guy with an Indian accent said he was calling from Aviva (I do have a policy with them). He asked if I wanted to take part in a customer feedback about my recent dealings with them. I told him I was busy and asked if he could send me an email instead (didnt give him my address since Aviva already have it). He said apparently they couldnt send emails about this feedback, so I ended the call. After that, I checked this number here and its clearly a scam. I'm definitely blocking it now.

Received a call from this number earlier. While I was chatting, I quickly looked it up on another device, and it came up as a potential scam. I wasted no time informing the caller that I knew it was dodgy and promptly ended the conversation. Relieved I took that measure before it escalated!

I rang up to clarify a couple of things regarding my recent passport renewal, but instead of getting answers, the conversation veered towards queries about broadband usage and various devices. It felt rather off-topic and not at all what I was expecting concerning my passport matters.

Got a call from someone claiming to be IMC about a recent passport application, asking how easy it was to get the passport. Then they suddenly switched to questions about broadband and laptops at home. I just hung up and blocked the number. Not sure if it was a scam or not, but it was really irritating.

Got a call from 01234987449, some “Ruby” claiming to be from HMRC passport office, asking about my travel plans. She knew my full name and my mobile number, which I never hand out easily!

Got a call from ICM Unlimited about a government passport survey.

Said they were from the passport office but wouldn’t show any ID or proof, totally a scam.

Some lady called sayin it was a survey about my son's passport. She sounded really polite but then wanted to talk to my six month old baby! I asked for a number so I could ring them back later but they wouldn’t give me one and just said they'd call again. I went ahead and blocked the number to stop any funny business.

Did some research for Aviva through a company named Walnut Unlimited. They didn’t ask for any personal info or anything. Seemed pretty standard, especially since I’d got in touch with Aviva not long ago.

She said she was ringing from Aviva (which I have policies with). I politely explained I always handle things directly with Aviva online, and she was quite understanding about not wanting to chat over the phone when it was an unexpected call. Seemed friendly enough. Maybe she really was from Aviva, but we always get told by UK banks and insurers about scam calls, yet they still hire outside firms to contact us. Honestly, Aviva, just reach me through my secure online account, please.

Someone rang me about my deal with Aviva. I told them to buzz off until I could verify they were genuine. After calling Aviva, I found out in the fine print I've actually agreed to do surveys or market research. I asked to be removed from the list. Sounds like it was a real call from a research firm, but honestly, I dont have the time for that stuff.

Said he was conducting a survey for the Welsh government about mental health in elderly folks. Very polite and articulate guy. Honestly, if I wasn’t so wary about calls on my landline, I probably would’ve fallen for it!

Really polite woman calling out of the blue, said something like "Hi, we're conducting a survey for older folks in Wales?" I asked if she had any details about who lives here, she said no, they don't have that info. I told her I wasn't interested and ended the call. Feels like one of those dodgy scams targeting elderly or vulnerable people, pretty nasty if you ask me.
