Just hang up, they’re definitely scammers pretending to be from the bank. They tell you there’s been a couple of strange transactions on your account, then give you a number to call that they say is the bank’s fraud department. As soon as they ended the call, I rang my bank myself and they told me it was a total scam!!

This number rang us first thing at 7:35 this morning and then again around 8:50. They said they were from BT Support, telling us there was an issue with our broadband??. They keep ringing us at least twice daily. My partner rang BT directly to check the internet, which was working perfectly. Unsurprisingly, BT said these calls were a scam. When we got a call yesterday, my partner questioned the caller, saying they weren’t from BT and that our internet was fine, then hung up. Since we called them out, they seem to be calling even more often... Is this some kind of prank?

Got a call from 012345678 earlier today. Since I’m on the Telephone Preference Service, it was pretty irritating. They claimed to be from Talk Talk, which made me even more wary coz I’m a Talk Talk client and all the hackers drama they had not long ago. Pretty clear it was a scam, told the guy that and, yep, he just cut me off straight away.

hey, im caitlin and ive got a story to tell. i was just chillin in my bathroom in bath when i got this strange call. some bloke called james said he could mend my broken heart. that felt off. i gave him my info cos i thought maybe he could help, but then he showed up and actually punched me in the shoulder. it really stung. to make things worse, he ran off with my dog tina. i miss her so much. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND DONT PICK UP THIS NUMBER. NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

Someone from 012345678 rang me today claiming to be from BT, saying there was an issue with my internet being hacked and he needed access to my computer to fix it. It felt really dodgy and I asked how I could trust he was really from BT. He then mentioned my BT account number, which was right, but I still had my doubts. In the end, the guy, who sounded Indian, just hung up on me. I’ve reported the call to BT now.

My brothers-in-law are with BT and told me this number comes from overseas. Instead of showing “International” on the caller ID, it just shows a phone number. According to several websites, it's linked to scanners and these callers often use different identities. If you see this number pop up, just let it ring or send it straight to voicemail. Don’t pick up! They might start ringing you back from different lines if you do. We've stopped answering anything unfamiliar now and only call back numbers we recognise. Since doing that, the annoying calls have dropped a lot.

I tried 1471 to check the caller’s ID and it gave me 012345678, which seems a bit odd. 01234 is Bedford’s area code, but the rest of the digits are just 4, not the usual 6. I’m aware people can hide their numbers, but is it possible for them to fake the number as well?

Got another ring from this number just now. These call-centre lot drive me mad with their dodgy 'deals' and 'services'. When you do manage to get someone on the line, they just toss out some fake name and unleash a poorly practised script that’s as convincing as a three-pound note.
