I hardly ever pick up calls from numbers I don’t recongnize, but this one rang me twice on Tuesday the 23rd of August. Looked it up here and it seemed like a classic scam or one of those annoying cold calls, so I’ve just blocked it now. Seriously, when are the authorities gonna step in and stop these fraudsters?

This number is supposed to be HMRC’s Self Assessment line, but a while back it got taken over by scammers, so watch out before you trust it.

I received a call on my secondary phone, which is registered with BT preferential and only shared with close family and mates. I keep a separate mobile just for work and forms, so I’m puzzled how they ended up with this particular number. I tried calling them back but blocked my number first. The person who answered said it was Speed, but I couldn’t find any company just named Speed online. They mentioned all their operators were busy and told me to press 1 if I wanted to opt out. They never tried my main line or my other mobile, so I’m pretty sure it was an unsolicited nuisance call.
