I've been receiving calls from the same bloke for about three weeks now, but he's using different phone numbers each time. He claims to be from Vodafone's promotions team, chattering on about lowering my mobile bill and how I can sign right up and get a shiny new phone by tomorrow. Being fully aware it’s a scam, I thought I’d keep him chatting a bit longer. I told him I wasn't interested in the offer. He then had the cheek to ask for my husband's mobile number to extend the same "fantastic" deal! I went along with it and insisted that my (totally made-up) husband wasn’t keen either. He became rather persistent at that point, asking for my direct debit information. When I finally told him I knew he wasn’t from Vodafone, he suddenly switched his tune, saying something like, "Alright, we'll just cancel your contract then..." I really hope that others can spot these intimidation tactics; either steer clear of these calls or verify unfamiliar numbers before engaging.
