They called saying I’d been in an accident sometime in the past three years, which is rubbish because its been like 15 years since my last one. When I asked to speak to a manager, they just cut me off.

Had this so-called ‘ambulance chaser’ call me, pretending they want to help with my accident but really just after a payout for themselves. A quick tip to spot these scams, even when the number looks local (like it did for me), is that when you answer, there’s this awkward silence at first. That’s because they’re ringing loads of people at the same time and snatching the call whoever picks up first - doesn’t happen instantly but just a tiny delay. If you notice that, best just to hang up right away. They keep ringing daily until you pick up or block them, so beware.

I got a call from this number yesterday afternoon. Since it's quite close to where I live, I assumed it might be from the council or something official. The woman on the phone said she was contacting me regarding an accident I was allegedly involved in. I told her I'd never been in any accident. Then she asked if anyone living with me had been hurt in one, but I live alone.
