Received a questionable call purportedly from BT Openreach, claiming there were issues with my broadband speeds. They insisted it was a complimentary service call due to my status as a BT Openreach customer. (Here’s where the first red flag was raised - BT Openreach primarily provides infrastructure and doesn’t cater to customers directly like myself). The caller asked if I could assess my broadband speeds and if I required assistance in this matter. I informed her that everything was running smoothly, as I can easily download hefty files and three of us can watch videos without hiccup. She abruptly terminated the call, no courtesy, no follow-up, which screamed that she wasn’t affiliated with any legitimate service provider. I suspect I was about to be lured into downloading some sort of malware disguised as a broadband aid. The caller was a woman with noticeable language difficulties, and eerily, there was no background noise typical of a call centre. When I tried to ring back, the line was engaged.
