6 yearsSomeone rang saying they were from BT Openreach, claiming there was an issue with my broadband speeds and offering a free service check since I supposedly was a BT Openreach customer. That raised a red flag straight away, because BT Openreach doesn’t deal with customers directly; they're just the infrastructure provider for the whole telecom sector. The caller, a woman with a strong accent and somewhat patchy English, asked if I wanted help testing my internet speeds. I told her everything was fine - I was downloading large files and three people streaming without trouble. She just hung up immediately, with no apology or any follow-up offered - which felt really dodgy. I reckon they were probably trying to trick me into installing some malicious software under the guise of fixing my internet. Tried calling the number back but it was constantly busy.
