I received a rather dubious phone call earlier, where the caller seemed unable to provide any meaningful details. All he went on about was an enticing offer of a phone at half price for Christmas. When I inquired about how he obtained my number, he couldn't provide a satisfactory answer and it was clear he was just reading off a script. I politely declined the offer and ended the conversation.

This is the second time in just two days I’ve had a call from these dodgy scammers claiming to be “O2” but never saying who they really are, just pushing some vague “50% off” deal. Honestly, don’t pick up, just block them straight away.

Someone rang me saying they were from O2. It’s not the first time I’ve had calls like this. Every time I tell them I’m on the TPS and that O2 isn’t my mobile provider, so they shouldn’t be contacting me. If it were really O2, I doubt they’d be daft enough to keep calling and risk being slapped with a fine by the ICO. Still, I’ll report it to the ICO just to be safe. Almost definitely a scam. Best not to interact with them. There are plenty of genuine deals available directly on your provider’s official website without the danger of getting caught out by scammers.

They try to trick you into confirming a PIN sent to your phone, then use that to get into your real 02 account and add fake credit contracts without your okay. They then find out your full name and address, which is how they manage to fool people. My mum got caught out by this today and after speaking to 02, it’s confirmed to be a fraud!
