Sounds like a dodgy debt scam to me, something about freezemydebt or whatever it was called.

They rang up offering help with my debts and asked for my bank info. I told them I wasn’t comfortable sharing that on the phone, which seemed to annoy them a bit. They kept pushing but in the end just gave up and moved on. Still, they did manage to get some stuff like my email, date of birth, and where I live.
