This number keeps ringing, but as soon as I pick up and greet them, they promptly disconnect. Quite puzzling, really!

I had a right dodgy phone call earlier from some bloke who introduced himself as "John Miles from the Microsoft Technical Support." He was attempting to gain access to my computer, likely trying to pull a fast one and empty my bank account.

My laptop suddenly started flashing several messages that claimed to be from Windows, plus a nonstop voice telling me "do not turn off" and that my computer had been hacked. It told me to call a number shown on the display. I called and ended up speaking to a man with an Indian accent who told me to type in www.any.com. It was hard to follow him clearly, so I just hung up. Does this mean my computer might be hacked, and what should I do now if so?

I got a pop-up on my laptop saying my PC was hacked and to call this number straight away to fix it. It said not to shut down the computer or else. I knew it was a scam right away but it did freak me out at first.

Today at about 11.10 in the morning I got locked out of my PC and ended up ringing this number thinking it was a legit Microsoft call. They told me to download some software to remove a virus but then started asking if I had online banking. I said no, which made me feel uneasy, so I ended up just hanging up on them. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

Whatever you do, don’t trust this number, it’s totally dodgy. The best thing to do if you get caught up with it is to hit Ctrl Alt Delete and open up the Task Manager to shut down whatever app you’re using. Safe bet to just avoid it all together really.

My computer suddenly showed a scary message saying it was locked and told me to ring this number. I couldn’t close the message no matter what I tried. Then I used another computer to search for the number and found a tip to press Alt, Control and Delete at the same time. That actually worked and the message disappeared. Now I’m going to have the first PC checked by a technician to be safe.
