I received a rather alarming call purporting to be from the HMRC regarding my National Insurance. The message claimed I was under investigation, and that legal proceedings were imminent! They insisted that if I didn’t return their call, my NI number would be suspended. However, when I called back, the person on the other end had a vague Asian accent and was incredibly dodgy when I pressed them for details about their identity. It definitely raised some red flags for me!

Without a doubt, this is a scam. HMRC and National Insurance are completely different entities, and this call seems engineered to create confusion and trick individuals. It’s downright distressing, particularly for those who may be more vulnerable. The individuals orchestrating this should definitely face severe consequences!
