Got a dodgy call with a robotic voice saying someone was trying to get a new version of my NI card or number. Then it told me to press 1 straight away. I just ended the call right there. Total scam!

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, said there’s some fraud case against me and if I don’t hit 1, they’d send the cops for me. When I answered, they started asking if I was working, then when I told them I was claiming benefits, they wanted to know for how long. I said years and then they just cut me off mid-conversation!

Just had my first run-in with a scam call like this from number 01223 639802! i got calls three times in less than an hour from this number. every time i tried to answer, no one was actually there. the 01223 code is linked to cambridge and nearby places. this particular number doesn’t seem to fit into any official number ranges, so if you’ve had a call from it, they’re probably faking who they are. according to ofcom, numbers beginning with 01223639 aren’t supposed to be in use.
