Got a call from this number earlier, the person said they were offering insurance for appliance repairs and even knew my name. When I asked where they got my details from, they suddenly got dodgy and stopped answering properly. Ended the call straight away.

TOTALLY A SCAM! Make sure you report any scam calls or messages. Just search for ‘action fraud’ on Google and head to the police.uk website. There’s a specific page called ‘report a phishing attempt’ where you can find all the info you need. Read everything carefully and then submit the details of the scam straight to the police’s database. Don’t forget to add any web links or URLs involved. This is really the only way the cops can track how widespread these fraud attempts are.

I’m curious if landlines like this can actually be traced more specifically. I know it’s definitely somewhere in Birmingham but not sure which part uses the '824' after the area code. Hopefully someone local could shed some light on this and help pin them down. It’s so frustrating these people carry on causing harm to vulnerable folks like this and they really should be made to face justice.
