Then this bloke had the cheek to say I’d not looked into it properly, claiming my old meter was outdated and that the new one could show the usage of each appliance, like the fridge freezer, suggesting I could save cash by switching it off at certain times. They rang me once but I didn’t pick up, thankfully. After checking it out, I blocked the number straight away. I think they’re after info about meters so they can figure out when to hike up all their charges on folks like us. It’s a sneaky form of “data gathering”. Screwfix do it by tracking postcodes, and Asda used to follow what big spenders buy in certain areas. Don’t ever share your personal details with them. It’s all sold on and could be used to your disadvantage.

Shell energy keep ringing me, and I just block their numbers straight away. But then after a week, they call from a different number. Every time I pick up, I tell them I don’t want a smart meter. It would be a big hassle since my gas cupboard is built right around the current meter, so fitting a new one would mean lots of work. I really doubt the installer would come prepared with everything needed to fix it properly. I’m happy to put my details online or snap a photo of the meter readings, but apparently that’s not good enough. Just blocked another number from them today.

Got a call from someone with a strong Indian or Asian accent, and they just went straight into asking for me by my first name with no proper intro or explanation. When I asked who they were, they said some foreign-sounding name claiming to be from Shell, saying they had to change my meter! Absolutely not, I’m not having any of it, don’t trust those calls at all. Proper fed up with these kinds of calls.

Received a call from someone purporting to be from Shell. As a Shell customer myself, I was a tad sceptical. They claimed they needed to fit new meters, but I couldn’t be certain they were legitimate. The chap on the line offered to send me an email with my account details for confirmation, but I told him I'd prefer to look into it at my own leisure via the app. Strangely enough, I checked my emails later and there was nothing from him. I’d never arrange anything like this over the phone - it just feels too risky. I thought of reaching out to Shell directly, but getting through to them on the phone seems like an impossibility!

Got a call from 01218095779 a couple of hours ago. A woman with an Indian accent answered and said she was ringing on behalf of Shell, even used my name. Last month, a man with the same accent called me too, but that time it was from an 03 number. Since I can’t be sure they’re really Shell, why bother calling me at all? Could be legit or just scammers, but with so many dodgy people out there, they shouldn’t waste their time. Told them they’d got the wrong person.

Still, I've had loads of calls since then, and I’m proper fed up with saying the same thing over and over.
