0121 943 2693 Called me, sounded African and claimed to be from Openreach about my broadband. I pretended to go along with it for a while but then he got annoyed when I couldn’t get the Windows key plus R right after about 10 tries. He kept grilling me about my personal stuff but didn’t buy it when I said I was an orphan or whatever. Ended up swearing at me, calling me a f##king mother f##ker multiple times before just hanging up.

I received a call from what sounded like a busy call centre, but they didn’t leave any message. When I tried to ring them back, a recorded voice greeted me instead, asking me to leave a message and then to press either * or # to connect with an operator. I just received a call from a gentleman of Asian descent named "James." When I politely indicated that I wasn't interested, he responded with a rather rude remark, calling me a "stupid bloody idiot." Quite disappointing, really, as I discovered that the number seems to be disconnected when attempted to call back. I find myself ringing my folks twice daily, only to be met with silence the moment they answer. It really is causing them unnecessary anxiety. My father suffers from dementia, which makes it all the more frustrating. Who do these telemarketers think they are? The number itself has that obvious pattern - 456 then 7777 - and weirdly, the 678 234 bit shows up in other fake numbers by these lot. Guess the scammers still know how to play with numbers! This number from Birmingham keeps ringing me repeatedly over the past few days. Feels like they’re using some kind of auto dialler as I used to be a director. Occasionally, the phone shows it as an ‘international’ call which is a dead giveaway it’s dodgy, but other times it doesn’t. The simple fact with these calls is they wouldn’t bother if they weren’t after cash. If we all just don’t respond, they’ll eventually stop pestering us. Honestly, we hold the power to put an end to it.

I received a rather dubious call on my parents' landline from some chaps claiming to be from the Government, insisting that my mum was eligible for a complimentary boiler. I mean, seriously? So I asked him for his name, contact information, and the proper details of his company-he was utterly flummoxed! The bloke had a thick foreign accent and seemed to get more irate by the minute. I couldn’t quite grasp the argument he was trying to make, as I simply wanted to know which government he was referring to. All I got in reply was a patronising "you're being daft." Oh, really? I ended the conversation promptly, telling him to remove our number from his records and wished him a lovely day.

These calls come from scammers speaking with strong Indian accents. When you check [#][#]telephonesuk[###]/exchanges.htm and look up 0121-678, you’ll see that this exchange isn’t genuine. The real ones get listed there. It looks like they’ve made up a local number to pretend it’s their own. On some phones, the call even shows as international. Right after that, I got a call from 01922 304925. Walsall numbers starting with 3 had 5 digits and were replaced in the 1990s by 6-digit ones that don’t begin with a 3. So, this number seems fake as well.

A woman on the other end claimed to be from BDC, insisting that the government was handing out grants to replace boilers that are around 4 to 5 years old, completely free of charge, installation included. Not having come across any news on this, I politely mentioned I’d have to check with my existing provider and then ended the call. I’d advise steering clear of this! :)
