I had the misfortune of receiving a rather abrupt call from a chap insisting that I confirm my banking information because they claimed I was eligible for a loan. The catch? I’ve never even applied to their service! Quite the unsettling experience, if I’m honest.

They said they were ringing from UK Loans and had approved my loan, but I had to pay £14.95 so the underwriter can check I can manage the repayments. I told them I wouldn’t pay for anything that wasn't certain. They assured me I’d definitely get the loan, the underwriter just needed to verify affordability. (271!) Then they said they don’t take my bank details right away, but after I pay this “Atlas” fee, the underwriter would get all my info, including my bank details. (7171) Pretty sure this is the same firm that scammed me last December - don’t trust or deal with them!

I said I wasn’t paying for something that’s not guaranteed. He insisted I would get the loan for sure, just needed the underwriter’s confirmation. (271!) Got a call even tho i'm on the national preference service (NPS) - if you get loads of nuisance calls, you really should register with this scheme. It’s run by the government, and you put your number on their list. Once you’ve signed up, any telesales or spam callers contacting you are actually breaking the law. They can be fined up to £5,000 for every call they make. Just look up NPS and have a read, it’s proper handy and worth the hassle.

It's a government initiative where you register your phone number, and if anyone like telesales rings you after that, they’re actually breaking the law. They can be fined up to £5,000 for each call!
