i've been getting these automated calls with recorded messages quite a bit, and it's really worrying me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Virgin Media (though I’m actually with BT) saying my internet was being hacked. She insisted I sit in front of my computer and show her my IP address to fix the problem. I wasn’t really buying it and wasn’t exactly helpful, which seemed to annoy her quite a bit. Things got a bit tense before she warned me my internet would be cut off for 2 weeks while they sorted it out. Weirdly enough, my internet’s been fine since then! :))
