this lady rang me out of the blue n just started blabbing about some car crash or summat, sounded like she was reading off a piece of paper. i kept asking "who is this?" but she didn’t answer properly, so i just ended the call after a bit. seemed fishy to me!

Seems like just another call centre scam. The woman barely said the company name, and when I asked her to repeat it, she just talked over me. She insisted I’d been in a car crash that wasn’t my fault, asking if that was true. Total fishing expedition, just hoping someone takes the bait. Definitely a random cold call.
