I received a call from this number, 07931 181973, not just last year but again today, 17th January 2013. The individual identifying themselves as a community police officer hinted at setting up a directory that businesses might find useful for police purposes. Given that I operate a massage and fitness service, I thought I might be interested. I never paid them any money, though I've heard stories of others who handed over significant sums-hundreds of pounds-for advertising that never materialised. Last year, I was intrigued enough to explore the idea of featuring my business with them. However, they quickly went ahead and pilfered details from my website, even going so far as to create a rather substandard profile rated poorly. When I inquired about who gave them permission to do that, they responded by sending me a dubious invoice for £380 plus VAT, demanding I transfer the funds directly to their account. They insisted that no business credit card was acceptable, citing past issues with it. Something felt off about the whole situation, so I decided to do a bit of digging. She was asking loads of questions and it felt a bit off to me. - caller said they were from 118 118.

Told me they were doing a free business listing for 118 118, something about refreshing their records. They asked to verify stuff like the business name, address, managing director, type of business, phone number, and so on. Nothing really sketchy or suspicious about it. They didn’t request anything that couldn't easily be found on Companies House. Just gotta see now if the spam and marketing starts rolling in.
