Got a really sketchy voicemail just now, sounded quite threatening actually. They finished off with "have a nice day!!" which was kinda creepy. Pretty sure it’s one of those scams.

Got an automated voicemail claiming there's some "action pending on your NI number" and that it’s my final opportunity to check what the alleged charges are, supposedly from HMRC. Totally sounds like a scam to me.

Just got a call from some scammer pretending to be HMRC, telling me there are big issues with my national insurance number and I need to call them back. It’s so frustrating! Can BT not just block that number and stop annoying me?

Got a call from 01212855861, some guy called Mike Wilson saying he's from HMRC. Total scam, especially since he never mentioned anyone by name but talked about 'serious charges' hanging over someone in our house. I don’t get why BT or whoever hasn’t blocked this number yet, considering how many times it’s been reported! Really frustrating.

Got a call from 0121 285 5861 claiming to be from HMRC. They left a voicemail saying something about legal trouble over unpaid taxes, but they never mentioned a specific name. That was my first red flag that it’s a scam. HMRC doesn’t usually ring you up about tax issues like that. Best advice: don’t bother calling them back or replying to their message, it’s all dodgy.

Today, 4th June, I got a call from someone claiming to be Officer Mike Wilson from HMRC around 1:15 pm. He left a message on my home phone’s voicemail, warning me about a possible legal case if I didn’t call back. He gave a phone number but without the leading zero. Oddly, he ended the message with something like "have a good day and stay blessed." I’m based in Greater Manchester. The call came from the number 0121 285 5861.

Some bloke called Mike Wilson said he was from HMRC and that there were serious problems involving my National Insurance number and name. He said it was urgent and I had to ring back straight away or face legal trouble. He also mentioned it was my final chance to sort out some big lawsuit. I don’t even know who in my house he wanted! This kind of call could really scare elderly or vulnerable folks. Best advice: just hang up and don’t answer these dodgy calls!

Got a voicemail from a bloke saying he was with HMRC, warning me this was my final chance to ring back or I'd face some serious legal trouble. No one was around to take the call, so he left it on answerphone. Ended it with some weird 'have a blessed day' bit. Quite odd, right?

I received a phone call from this number, with someone claiming to be Mike Wilson, purportedly an officer from HMRC. He went on to assert that legal repercussions were imminent if I failed to return his call, even mentioning a potential serious lawsuit. Intrigued, I decided to ring the number back, and, as luck would have it, the same man picked up, still insisting he was Mike Wilson. I confronted him about his threats and made my feelings quite clear, yet he remained completely silent and didn’t respond to any of my points. I’m convinced this is nothing but a scam, and I’ve reported the incident to the authorities.

Got a call from this number earlier today. Like others mentioned, they were pretending to be from HMRC and threatening me with legal trouble. Thing is, I’ve done nothing wrong anyway, and from my experience, HMRC staff are usually quite decent and respectful. They definitely don’t ring you out of the blue first thing on a Monday to scare you like this!

Got a call early this morning about 8:30 from a bloke speaking with a kind of Asian-American accent, claiming he was from some Special Unit at HMRC. I used to work for HMRC so I reckoned he was just a fraud. I just said "Bollocks" to him and he didn’t say a thing back. I then asked if he even knew what that word meant, and that’s when he hung up.

Got a recorded call from 'HMRC' on 0121-285 5861, real threatening tone. What's odd is the number they told me to ring matched exactly with the one calling! I quickly reported it to HMRC using their dedicated email for scams. Fingers crossed they track down these scammers soon.

I received a call from this number bright and early today. It was a pre-recorded message pretending to be from HMRC, threatening legal action if I didn’t ring them back immediately. What struck me as odd was that they didn't use my name, which means it could have been me or my husband on the other end. So who exactly were they targeting? It's rather troubling to think about how some unsuspecting elderly individual might be deceived into ringing them back. I dread to imagine what could happen next!

HMRC have issued a warning about a scam involving automated calls claiming they're suing you and prompting you to press one to talk to a caseworker for payment. This is definitely a scam, so it’s best to hang up straight away. These fraudulent calls have been reported a lot, especially aimed at older and vulnerable folks. Sometimes, the scammer might say you’re due a tax refund and try to get your bank or card details. If you’re unsure who’s calling, it’s safer to not engage at all. If you’ve fallen for this and lost money, make sure to report it to Action Fraud.
