I got a call saying HMRC were suing me, which sounded really dodgy. According to the HMRC website, there’s a scam going around where automated calls claim you’re being taken to court and tell you to ‘press 1 to talk to a caseworker and pay up right away’. They’ve confirmed it’s a con and said you should just hang up straight away. It seems like these scammers are mainly after old or vulnerable folks. Sometimes they ring saying you’re due a tax refund and ask for your bank details, but if you don’t know who’s calling for sure, best not to answer or give any info.
