Got a call about a buyout for BA shares I supposedly own. I actually hold some BA shares, but they usually only get in touch with me through Royal Mail. They asked if they could email me the info, and I just said BA already has my email address (which isn’t actually the case).

Got a call on the landline asking for my mam who passed away back in 2011. The bloke then started pushing some sort of utility share offer to whoever would hear him out. I’ve been handling her affairs for a while since then, and she did have a handful of shares from when the utilities were privatised, all kept under my address and home number. Feels like some dodgy old share registrar scheme is back doing the rounds, probably a fresh scam trying to catch people out.

Got a call from a bloke with a strange accent, saying he was keen on buying shares in Legal & General. After I told him I wasn’t interested, he just hung up on me.

Got a call from some bloke abroad wanting to speak to my missus. When I asked if she had requested the call, he said nope. Then he started rambling about some confusing financial scheme that made no sense to me. I asked if he'd get paid for pushing it - he said no! I told him he must be going straight to heaven then. After that, he just hung up on me.

I got a call from some Indian call centre claiming to be a US-based finance firm. They said they were arranging a hostile takeover of International Power and needed a few more shares to complete the deal. They promised to pay top dollar for these shares, but then insisted both me and their supposed client had to buy an insurance bond first, which was over £5000. Honestly, do they really think everyone’s that gullible? It felt like a total con.

Got a call about buying my shares in Wolseley, which apparently is now called Fergerson. They claimed they wanted to buy over 51% of the company’s shares. Offered me a ridiculously high price per share and said they’d send paperwork for the sale. I was already feeling iffy about the whole thing, but then they sprang the bombshell - needed £4563 for some kind of transfer bond. Absolutely not! I told them straight up it was a scam and hung up.

Got a call from someone saying they represented a firm wanting to buy Serco PLC. They had no clue about the current share value and then tried to buy shares at a price way above market. I said that sounded a bit fishy and ended the call.
