Was setting up a printer and ended up getting handed over to this lot. Claimed they were from HP in Florida and told me my computer was hacked. Then they pushed me to pay £199 for extra security or else clear my computer. Total nonsense, don’t waste your time with them.

I encountered a bit of a fiasco when I attempted to set up Office 365. I initiated a live chat for assistance, and before I knew it, this so-called technician was rummaging through my files without any prior warning that he would be taking control of my machine. He simply requested me to enter a command, which raised my suspicions, prompting me to terminate the call. Shortly after, a woman named Jennifer incessantly rang me, attempting to persuade me to permit her back onto my PC. It struck me as quite the dubious scheme aimed at gaining access to my computer. In light of this experience, I promptly altered my bank account PIN and password. Cheers, Alan.

Be careful, this number is faking being a helpline. They’re just after your bank info, so don’t say anything at all!

I reached out for assistance to set up my printer and ended up speaking to individuals claiming to be from Geek Squad Technologies. They alarmingly informed me that my device was infected with a virus and offered a lifetime protection plan for the hefty sum of £400. It all seemed a bit over the top, if I’m honest. They had remote access to my laptop for more than an hour! Thankfully, I didn't hand over any bank information, but I'm left wondering what kind of data they might have managed to access. Quite concerning, really.

Got a right dodgy call from someone claiming to be from HP, trying to pull a fast one!

Indeed, I've had a rather unsettling encounter with HP myself regarding setting up my new printer. The woman who contacted me from this number requested access to my laptop for syncing the printer. To my dismay, she began rummaging through my files, ominously claiming that my antivirus protection was insufficient, suggesting that my laptop was in jeopardy. My instincts kicked in as she attempted to sell me a Symantec antivirus package for a whopping £120! At that juncture, I firmly instructed her to relinquish control of my computer as I had no intention of making any purchases. By the way, HP encourages reporting these sorts of scams to their headquarters in the USA, but I can't help but wonder what that will actually achieve!

I had a similar experience! A pop-up appeared on the HP website, and I ended up receiving a callback from a chap with a number rooted in Bodmin, Cornwall. He claimed that my computer was riddled with viruses, but we’ve got top-notch antivirus software, and it clearly indicates that everything is alright. The moment I mentioned I wasn’t willing to pay a penny, he vanished from the line in an instant. It’s quite unnerving to think I inadvertently allowed him entry to my computer!

I just received a call from this number claiming to be the help line for HP printers. They've managed to get hold of my credit card information and even accessed my computer remotely. I've since shut down my computer. What should I expect to happen next?

01208530006. I dialled this number after seeing it advertised as a help line for Hewlett Packard. Turns out, it was anything but legitimate. After nearly an hour spent on the phone, during which they gained access to my laptop, they informed me that my device was riddled with a virus blocking HP's services and demanded £399 to fix it. The minute they began offering discounts when I expressed my inability to pay, alarm bells rang - I realised it was a scam, and promptly ended the call. They've since created a Facebook profile in my name and even popped up on LinkedIn, though I hardly use that platform. This encounter took place on Tuesday, 5th of May, 2020.

I've just received a lengthy call from this particular number, believing I was receiving assistance with my HP printer. Goodness, I'm absolutely terrified to realise how close I was to falling for it! Now, I can't seem to bring myself to use my laptop any longer. At 67 years old, I'm feeling utterly defeated-if not financially, at least they've really shaken me up in the head department-it's been a real blow!

Indeed, I’ve experienced something similar, and it's quite unnerving. I suspect he managed to access my computer, though I'm still piecing together the extent of any potential harm done.

I received a call purporting to be from HP support, and to give credit where it’s due, the chap certainly sounded knowledgeable. However, he identified himself as being in India and clearly had an Asian accent. When I rang the number back, I was surprised to discover it was actually registered in Florida! Quite the mystery, isn't it?
