Got a call from someone claiming they got my info from the national accident helpline, saying I might’ve been in a car accident sometime in the last couple of years. I shut that down straight away, telling them it was complete nonsense since I haven’t been involved in anything like that. I also told them they were probably breaking data protection laws by using my info like that without permission. When I asked where their main office was, they clammed up and wouldn’t say. I told them I thought they were scammers and that I’d report them. I could hear loads of other people talking in the background too, all sounding like they were doing the same calls. It’s disgusting that this kind of thing goes unchecked.
