Someone rang saying they were from BT and asked if the householder was there. I told them no, then they wanted to know when a good time to call back would be. I asked if they could just talk to me instead, and then they said it was about a broadband upgrade offer. I told them I’m fine with my current service, thanks.

Got a call that was pretending to be BT, sounded like it was from India with really poor English. Totally not worth picking up, just a scammer trying to trick you. Best to just block and ignore. Caller ID said BT but don’t believe it.

Wasn’t bothered to pick up since it was 8pm, and I knew it couldn’t be someone I know, as they’d just message or WhatsApp me instead. No idea who it was (and don’t buy that story from someone else about a prisoner from some jail with a dodgy spelling), but I reckon it's just another sales call. Most likely, they’re using a number that looks like it’s from the UK, but it’s probably routed through some call centre abroad.

These people are fraudsters claiming to be from BT. I phoned BT myself and they confirmed it’s a scam. The callers refuse to say who they really are. They pretend BT wants to check if they can offer you a better deal on your phone, internet and television bundle. Then they try to find out details like who your current provider is, what plan you have, and how much you're paying. Once you've let your guard down, they start asking for personal information.
