I got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC, but when I rang HMRC directly, they told me they never call people first. So yeah, it’s definitely a scam! Don’t fall for it, they’re totally dodgy!

this was obviously one of those common hmre scams. i’ve been called a couple times before so i kind of suspected it was a scam but i decided to press 1 just to find out. an unfriendly and quite pushy lady with an asian accent answered, and she just slammed the phone down as soon as i asked her what the call was about. be careful out there and never ever share your bank info with someone who rings you out of the blue!

Got a call from a bloke who barely spoke English, saying he was from the HMRC. He wanted to know if I’d got any letters from them because they’d been trying to reach me. He knew my name and where I live. When he asked a second time about the letters, I said I hadn’t got any. Then he wanted to ring the local office. I told him I didn’t want that, and when he asked why, I asked for my National Insurance number. He gave me one, but it wasn’t mine at all. After that, the call just cut off suddenly.

I've had a rather dubious character ring me twice within the span of a week, leaving behind a jumbled message concerning taxes. Seems a bit off to me, if I'm honest!
