I received a rather dubious phone call supposedly from “Colchester,” and I must say, the quality was atrocious-it was some sort of automated message in French. I managed to catch a few phrases mentioning “prizes” and “an opportunity,” which instantly rang alarm bells for me. Clearly, it’s another scammer on the prowl, but I do wonder how they got hold of my number, considering I don’t use my mobile for anything remotely related to lotteries... I’ve never even dabbled in the Euromillions! If I get another call from this lot, I think I might just have a bit of fun with “FiFi.” I’d engage her in some chit-chat before hitting her with the motherly question: “Does your mum know she raised you to be a thief, a con artist, and a cheat?” I reckon that might give them a moment’s pause. I’ve had some success with that line before when I’ve dealt with “Microsoft Technical Centre” callers; they usually go quiet and then hang up, presumably pondering their life choices! The caller's identity remains a mystery, though I suspect they might have been French.
